Is Smarter Working In The UK Public Sector A Myth – Or A Growing Reality?

Do you wonder if we have the thinking, tools and technologies to make HMG more effective?

Then mark your diary for a week’s time – as there’s somewhere you’ll need to be.

It’s Think Smarter Working For Public Sector 2018, a special one-day event being held next Thursday (June 7th) at Westminster’s centrally-located One Great George Street conference venue (nearest Tubes: Westminster and St James’s Park).

Think Smarter Working For Public Sector 2018 commences at 9.45 with opening remarks from well-known UK public sector IT journalist David Bicknell, who edits the Government Computing news site.

Commenting on his participation as chair of the event, Bicknell notes that, “The ‘Our Ways of Working’ programmes across government – led by the Food Standards Agency –  have set out to create vibrant organisations that ‘attract and retain the best staff, each of whom is engaged, highly motivated to deliver, innovative, collaborative, well led and supported with the right tools.’

“That mission is now being delivered via complementary work-streams covering organisational development, personal development, and physical spaces. Arguably, that’s now the story across government – as it should be, really, across the wider UK public sector.

“Against the backdrop of changing times, and the challenge of delivering on Brexit, we are witnessing a quiet revolution in how civil servants work in improving the public services both offered, and delivered, to citizens.”

Bicknell is set to introduce a number of prominent Smarter Working practitioners to explore this theme from senior policymakers and IT leaders in central government, as well as observations from prominent suppliers to the space, including Diamond Partner UKCloud [https://ukcloud.com].

The day features, for example, presentations from Kit Collingwood-Richardson [http://www.thinksmarterworkingforpublicsector.com/speaker/kit-collingwood-richardson/], Deputy Director, Universal Credit at the DWP, who will tell delegates about progress with ‘One Team Government’, plus a number of panels featuring analyst, supplier and civil servant representatives.

Given the packed agenda and quality of contributors we can expect next week, Think Digital Partner’s Director, Matt Stanley, promises that Think Smarter Working For Public Sector 2018 will “genuinely deliver on its promise”.

“We are covering this important topic from two angles – the technology that allows teams to work smarter in terms of the most appropriate hardware, software and infrastructure, which of course is critical, but also at the people side of this – the culture, skills and capability government needs to Work Smarter, and the ethics underpinning Smarter Working.”

The event will conclude at 4pm, after a very full day of debate – and we really hope to see you on the day.

Places are still available, which, like all Think Digital Partners events, are FREE to qualified public sector professionals.

Please go here to check out the agenda and here to secure your place on a day set to answer the crucial question the sector needs to answer re Smarter Working: could a smarter attitude genuinely make government more effective?
