Digital trust platforms are rapidly replacing standalone eSignature tools as organisations seek integrated identity verification, cryptographic assurance and long-term document integrity, according to Frost & Sullivan’s latest Digital Trust and eSignature Ecosystem report. The analyst predicts the global market will grow from $13.48 billion in 2026 to $20.84 billion by 2031, driven by AI-generated fraud, tightening regulation including eIDAS 2.0, and demand for end-to-end trusted digital transaction platforms.

European identity security specialist WALLIX has partnered with French research institute Inria to develop trusted AI for identity and access management. The collaboration will focus on identity behavioural analytics, intelligent access governance, non-human identities and explainable AI to strengthen cybersecurity as organisations increasingly rely on AI-driven identity systems.
United Kingdom
Bristol-based security specialist Rock Solid Knowledge has launched Open.IdentityServer, a free, open-source identity platform for Microsoft .NET developers.
Based on the Apache 2.0-licensed IdentityServer4 codebase, the platform provides OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, single sign-on and API access control without requiring a commercial core licence. The company says it is committed to keeping the core platform permanently free while offering optional commercial support and services.
Europe
OCR Studio has unveiled an AI-powered identity verification platform for European customer onboarding at GITEX AI Europe in Berlin.
The solution supports identity documents from all 27 EU member states, together with the UK, Switzerland and Türkiye, processing documents in 103 languages while keeping all identity data on-device or within an organisation’s own infrastructure. It also includes age assurance capabilities designed to meet increasingly stringent requirements across several European countries.
United Kingdom
The UK government has taken another step towards recognising digital identity for age verification in pubs and licensed premises.
A new statutory instrument will amend licensing legislation to allow certified Digital Verification Services (DVS) to be used for alcohol sales in England and Wales, subject to parliamentary approval. Ministers intend the changes to come into force in Autumn 2026, delivering a long-promised expansion of digital proof-of-age services.
United Kingdom
Experian has launched Identity Connect, a new digital identity verification platform designed to help organisations comply with emerging UK digital identity standards while reducing fraud and customer friction.
The service combines biometric verification, document authentication, fraud intelligence and Experian bureau data through a single API. Experian says it is currently the only UK credit reference agency certified under the government’s Digital Verification Services Trust Framework, with future updates planned to include Open Banking-based identity verification.

Switzerland
Switzerland has delayed the rollout of its national digital identity to prioritise security over speed.
The Federal Office of Justice says additional work is needed to strengthen data protection, trust infrastructure and online identity issuance, particularly in response to emerging AI-related threats. Officials say the enhanced safeguards will push the launch into next year but are essential to maintaining public confidence in the e-ID programme.
Romania
Romania has selected Germany’s open-source model as the foundation for its European Digital Identity Wallet.
The government says adopting Germany’s implementation will reduce development costs, avoid duplication and accelerate deployment while maintaining compatibility with European privacy, security and data sovereignty principles. Romania also plans to allow certified private-sector wallet providers to participate in the national ecosystem.
Ireland
Ireland has completed public consultation on its national digital wallet and is moving into the pilot phase of deployment.
Officials say public testing will help refine the wallet ahead of full rollout, while educating citizens on how it works and gathering feedback on future credentials. The government says almost eight in ten people already use digital identity to access essential services and remains on track to meet the EU’s end-of-2026 deadline for national digital wallets under eIDAS 2.0.
Somalia
Somalia will introduce a new third-generation biometric passport in October and is making its national digital ID card mandatory for all passport applications.
The move strengthens the country’s biometric identity ecosystem by linking travel documents directly to its national identity programme. Authorities say the new polycarbonate passport will improve document security while helping reduce fraud and strengthen border management.
Honduras
The US State Department has awarded a contract to strengthen Honduras’ Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) as part of regional efforts to improve biometric criminal record sharing across Central America.
The upgraded system will support law enforcement cooperation between Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador by enabling more effective fingerprint-based identification of individuals linked to organised crime.
