A public beta version of the register of digital identities and attributes services has gone live.
The Office for Digital Identities and Attributes (ODIA) said it will make it easier for businesses and the public to check and find trusted digital identity products in the UK. It will be open for service providers once a service has been certified against the digital identity and attributes trust framework.
ODIA was set up in October last year within the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to support the use of digital identity services in the UK.

Decentralised identity solutions provider Proof Of ID has integrated with Equifax with aims to redefine how financial institutions onboard customers and combat fraud.
By integrating Proof Of ID’s platform into Equifax’s verification data, when a consumer opts to share their digital ID – be it for KYC checks or profile validation – the process is encrypted, tokenised, and validated in real time against Equifax’s records.
The partnership removes the need for manual uploads, and replaces vulnerable centralised databases with “fast, secure, and reliable” identity assurance.

Cardano has launched Veridian, its open-source digital identity platform which provides a decentralised solution for both individuals and businesses.
Veridian reportedly enables users to safely manage their digital identities. The platform tackles the problem of centralised identity systems that frequently result in data breaches.
Without relying on third-party services, users can protect their digital identities through open-source protocols such as KERI decentralised identifiers and ACDC credentials, said the company.

The UK recorded a “staggering” 421,000 fraud cases last year, among which nearly 60 percent are related to identity fraud, according to an annual report released by fraud prevention service Cifas.
The non-profit organisation revealed that the National Fraud Database (NFD) recorded approximately 250,000 identity fraud filings in 2024, a five percent increase year-on-year. Most cases were committed through online channels (86 percent).
In its Fraudscape 2025 report, Cifas also notes that criminals are investing more time in false identities and fictitious profiles with the help of generative AI.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS), Department of Home Affairs (DHA), Border Management Authority (BMA), and Government Printing Works (GPW) have signed a landmark agreement to create an integrated digital identity platform and overhaul service delivery across key public sectors.
The new initiative aligns with South Africa’s Digital Transformation of Government Roadmap, which promotes a “whole-of-government” approach to eliminate inefficiencies, reduce fraud, and modernise state infrastructure.
At the centre of the initiative is a unified digital identity system that will serve as a single point of interaction between citizens and government services. SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter said this will ensure “only one identity through which the individual interacts with government,” helping prevent fraud, identity theft, and duplicate benefits through real-time data integration and advanced biometric security.

Tradelink Electronic Commerce (0536) has entered into a strategic partnership with e-signature platform DocuSign, as its sole trusted service provider in Hong Kong.

Under the collaboration, Docusign integrated Tradelink’s digital identity solution into its platform, enabling users to conduct digital signing supported by recognised certificates under the Electronic Transactions Ordinance in the city for legally binding documents.

More than 40 Labour MPs are urging ministers to introduce a new form of digital ID to help control the migration system and improve public services.
In an open letter, Labour MPs from three groups said a “gear shift” was needed to reap the benefits of digital identification, reports the BBC.
The letter said, while the government had made “great strides” on digitising identification, “the time has come for a more comprehensive programme”.
“The truth is we are moving to an era of digital ID,” Jake Richards, one of the Labour MPs who signed the letter, told the BBC. “The government knows this – and is bringing forward new developments with digital driving licences and passports, but we want them to move faster, to ensure the project is comprehensive and joined-up and, critically, bring the public with them.”
The group argues digital ID could help tackle “illegal off-the-books employment”.

Individuals can now verify their identity directly with Companies House through GOV.UK One Login. People can also verify their identity through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP).
The introduction of identity verification is one of the key changes to UK company law under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023. This landmark legislation gave Companies House new and enhanced powers to help disrupt economic crime and support economic growth.
Identity verification will provide more assurance about who is setting up, running, owning and controlling companies in the UK. There will be the same level of assurance whether individuals are verifying their identity directly with Companies House or through an ACSP.

Switzerland has entered the public testing phase of its electronic identity (e-ID) system through the Swiyu app, marking another step in its effort to implement state-recognised digital identification by 2026. The testing allows residents to create fictitious e-IDs and explore features such as selective information sharing using dynamic QR codes.
The Swiyu app, available for iOS and Android, serves as a secure digital wallet where users can store and manage verified credentials. The government’s approach emphasises granular privacy controls, allowing users to disclose only the minimum necessary data—for example, confirming age eligibility for alcohol purchases without sharing full personal details.

The Centre for Finance, Innovation and Technology (CFIT) is stepping up its work to drive the creation and adoption of Digital Company ID in the UK, through the launch of three new working groups.
The three groups will focus on building a viable Digital Company ID prototype (with an exchange of real data between partners), identifying additional use cases for Digital Company ID and defining the necessary trust and governance requirements.
The working groups will be led by the financial service associations UK Finance and the Financial Data and Technology Association (FDATA); the financial technology company Select ID; and the global law firms A&O Shearman and Skadden. A range of other organisations, including partners such as Barclays, GLEIF, Lexis Nexis Risk Solutions, Mastercard, Monzo, Moody’s, Skadden, Transunion will participate and provide insights.
