Digital identity news from around the world.

United Kingdom

Signicat has achieved certification against the UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF) for its NFC-based identity and identity document verification technology and orchestration services.

Following an independent audit by the Kantara Initiative, Signicat can offer its components and orchestration to third-party services certified for use cases including Right to Work, Right to Rent and Disclosure and Barring Service checks. Its ReadID technology combines document verification and facial checks to confirm a user is present and is the legitimate owner of the identity document.

Belgium

Security vulnerabilities have been disclosed in Belgium’s Connective digital identity system, which is used by more than two million people and supports authentication and legally binding electronic signatures across banks and government agencies.

Researcher James Arnott found flaws that could allow malicious websites to interact with the Connective application, read connected eID and payment card details, trigger deceptive PIN prompts and potentially forge electronic signatures. A separate remote code execution flaw was also identified. Nitro Software Belgium fully remediated the issues 146 days after the initial report, with final security enforcement completed in late July.

Europe

Worldline and Lissi have partnered to launch the Worldline Digital Identity Hub, a managed integration platform designed to help banks connect to the European Digital Identity Wallet ecosystem.

The platform is intended to provide financial institutions with a single integration point rather than requiring separate connections to each certified wallet. Under eIDAS 2.0, EU member states must provide certified wallets by the end of 2026, while regulated financial institutions will be required to accept certified wallets for KYC and authentication purposes by the end of 2027. Around 40 wallet providers are expected to be live by then.

United States

Civitas ID has secured a two-year, $500,000 grant from the Gates Foundation to build open-source digital identity infrastructure aimed at helping displaced people prove who they are and access services.

The non-profit is developing verifiable digital credentials, a personal digital wallet and a service navigation platform using W3C Verifiable Credentials, Decentralised Identifiers and open protocols. Initial pilots are running in Colombia and Kenya, with the project targeting the wider documentation gap affecting forcibly displaced people and others excluded from formal services.

Nigeria

Nigeria has begun a six-month revalidation of existing cooperative societies alongside the introduction of new digital identity credentials for verified organisations and their members.

The programme will create a National Cooperative Smart Registry and assign Cooperative Verification Numbers to approved organisations, while individual members will progressively receive CoopID credentials. The system is intended to support access to government interventions, loans, contracts and partnerships, with USSD access included for people using feature phones.

Isle of Man

Isle of Man-based digital identity provider SQR is winding down after failing to secure the investment needed to continue operations.

The company, which was certified under the DIATF as both an Identity Services Provider and Attributes Service Provider, terminated services on 31 July 2026 and deleted all customer data. SQR had previously won work with the Isle of Man government and joined the Select ID Reusable ID Network, but said a recent strategic growth funding round was unsuccessful.

Czechia

Czech authorities have asked citizens to help stress-test the eDoklady mobile identity app ahead of municipal elections in October.

The exercise was designed to test how the service performs when large numbers of users simultaneously update their digital identity credentials. More than one million people use eDoklady, which can be presented at government offices, courts, banks, schools, health insurers and polling stations. The test follows problems experienced by some voters when updating the app during last year’s elections.

United Kingdom

Innovative Technology is working with police teams in Cumbria and Lancashire to deploy its MyCheckr and MyCheckrMini age estimation devices across off-licences and the night-time economy.

Businesses that fail test purchases can be offered the devices to help improve compliance. The systems use cameras to assist staff with age checks without storing images or personal data, with police saying the technology can also help reduce confrontation and improve consistency when asking customers for identification.

Egypt

Egypt is moving SIM registration identity checks into mobile operator apps, allowing customers to complete facial verification remotely rather than carrying out the entire process at a branch.

Under the proposed process, a live facial scan will be matched against the photograph on the customer’s national identity card. A successful match will allow the SIM registration to proceed, while a mismatch will stop the transaction. Operators are also being instructed to ensure existing mobile lines are registered in the name of their actual users.

Global

The global identity verification market is projected to grow from $14.34 billion in 2025 to $29.32 billion by 2030, according to MarketsandMarkets, representing a compound annual growth rate of 15.4 percent.

The analyst firm says adoption is being driven by the growth of remote onboarding across financial services, healthcare, e-commerce and telecoms, alongside increased use of biometrics, AI-driven verification and mobile identity technology. Asia Pacific is forecast to record the highest growth rate during the period.

Portugal

BIO-key International and Portuguese partner Visualforma have won a contract to strengthen digital identity security for a Portuguese national security agency.

The deployment combines centralised identity management with multi-factor authentication, fingerprint biometrics and identity-bound authentication across administrative systems, privileged accounts and critical applications. The deal expands BIO-key and Visualforma’s existing work across Portugal’s public sector into a more security-sensitive environment.

United States

GB Group (GBG) has lowered its full-year revenue growth expectations after higher-than-expected customer volume attrition affected its Americas Identity business.

The company now expects revenue growth of between one and three percent for FY27, compared with its previous forecast for mid-single-digit growth. GBG nevertheless plans to continue a £6 million investment aimed at accelerating innovation around its GBG Go platform, with AI and trust intelligence remaining areas of focus.
