New data from Privately SA’s AgeAI solution has revealed that its deployments in UK vape stores prevent on average eight underage customers per store per day from purchasing vapes.
The six months’ field data was gathered from UK stores using AgeAI devices and showed that each device scanned an average of 92 customers per store daily, identifying up to eight as underage.
AgeAI removes subjectivity from age verification by providing instant and highly accurate facial age estimation. It is fully anonymous, with no images transmitted or stored, ensuring full GDPR (UK) compliance. By automating checks, AgeAI said it helps stores prevent fines and reduces friction between staff and customers.

Jamaica will make its digital identity available to all of its citizens, Custos of Kingston Steadman Fuller has said.
“The government remains committed to transforming Jamaica into a digital society, ensuring that unique digital identity is available to every citizen,” he said.
Jamaica established the legal framework for its national identification system in 2024 by gazetting the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) Act Regulations and started issuing its first electronic national Identification card.
Steadman said that the government is currently developing Jamaica Data Exchange Platform which will streamline government data validation for the tax registration number (TRN), driver’s license and the new national ID. A similar initiative to connect public services and digital ID is being undertaken in Sri Lanka.

ID Dataweb and SDG Corporation announced a strategic partnership, combining their expertise in identity verification and cybersecurity services to strengthen digital trust solutions for enterprises.
The alliance integrates ID Dataweb’s cross-channel identity verification and fraud prevention capabilities with SDG Corporation’s experience in identity and access management (IAM). The partnership focuses on reducing fraud for shared business clients, ensuring accurate identity verification during onboarding and credential issuance, and improving identity systems across customer bases, partner ecosystems, and workforces.
A key feature of the alliance is the implementation of IAL 2 certified workflows for identity verification tasks, including password resets, multi-factor authentication, and new account creation. This addresses growing concerns about identity verification standards, which have been identified as a significant issue in certain sectors, reports ID Tech.

Estonia has become the first nation to implement 100 percent digital government services. The achievement builds upon Estonia’s digital identity infrastructure, which has served as a model for other nations. The digital transformation matches similar initiatives by other nations, including the UAE’s Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme, which aims to streamline government procedures and reduce processing times by 50 percent.

Deutsche Telekom’s subsidiary T-Systems and Swedish digital identity specialist Scytáles have been selected by the European Commission to develop an age verification solution for the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW). The solution will be integrated into the EU’s digital wallet initiative, which aims to provide citizens with secure digital identification capabilities on their mobile devices. The selection extends Scytáles’ previous involvement in developing the core EUDIW infrastructure alongside Netcompany-Intrasoft.
The project supports the EU’s Digital Services Act initiatives and will deliver a privacy-centric age verification system capable of secure communication with online retailers to request necessary identity data. The EUDIW is mandated by the EIDAS Regulation, requiring all member states to issue and recognize EU Digital Identity Wallets by 2026. The timeline corresponds with the recent launch of the eIDAS-Testbed, which supports the implementation of the European Digital Identity Framework.

The Government has set out new requirements for means of identification, authentication services, and authorisation services within the Digital Government Act (Wdo). These are aimed at bolstering the security and privacy of online interactions with government services.
With the introduction of the Wdo, citizens can now access various government services using recognised private login methods, in addition to the existing DigiD system. However, these private login methods must receive approval from the central government. The requirements ensure these methods meet stringent security and privacy standards. This move allows interested parties to prepare for admission, although the requirements will only take effect once the technical specifications of the Access System are completed.

TECH5 has been selected as the biometric technology provider for Peru’s National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC) following a successful public tender. Under the three-year contract, TECH5 will implement its biometric platforms for facial capture and verification in RENIEC’s digital identity validation processes.
The implementation centres on two core TECH5 technologies: T5-AirSnap Face and T5-OmniMatch ABIS. T5-AirSnap Face offers AI-powered mobile facial biometric capture through smartphone cameras while ensuring compliance with ISO and ICAO standards. The T5-OmniMatch ABIS platform performs multi-biometric matching for identification, de-duplication, verification, and authentication processes.
RENIEC, an autonomous constitutional body of the Peruvian government established in 1995, manages the identification and civil registration of Peruvian citizens. The organization issues national identity documents (DNI), records vital events including births, marriages, divorces, and deaths, and maintains the National Registry of Identification. RENIEC also maintains and updates the voter registry for electoral processes.
The new system will allow Peruvian citizens to access RENIEC’s digital services and connected entities through secure biometric verification. This enhances Peru’s existing digital identity infrastructure, following RENIEC’s previous work with Ipsidy’s biometric identity solutions around the turn of the decade.

LexisNexis Risk Solutions, part of RELX, closed its acquisition of IDVerse, a provider of AI-powered document authentication and fraud detection solutions. IDVerse is now part of the Business Services segment of LexisNexis Risk Solutions and will continue to be available within its LexisNexis RiskNarrative platform, LexisNexis IDU, and will be offered within its LexisNexis Dynamic Decision Platform as a standalone solution later this year.
Founded in Australia and launched commercially in 2018, IDVerse uses AI to combat fraud and deepfakes. Its proprietary technology is powered by a deep neural network which verifies the authenticity of identity documents and, with consumer consent, matches the consumer’s face to the photo on a document using biometric algorithms for identity verification and liveness detection to detect a fraudulent submission. IDVerse’s technology is capable of verifying more than 16,000 types of identity documents globally across organisations in various industries and the public sector.
