Are you a solicitor, barrister, general counsel or otherwise involved in the legal sector?
Then we have three questions for you:
Do you think AI (Artificial Intelligence).Machine Learning (ML) and automation of more and more white collar work could impact your work?
Are you up to speed with just what blockchain is – and what it might mean for contracts?
Do you feel confident that your firm is on the right track when it comes to planning to exploit these drivers of change?
Then we think we have some answers for you.
They’ll be coming in the shape of a new conference, THINK AI For Legal 2018, which will offer legal practitioners visibility into the current state of play with these key technologies – and how they could affect their profession.
Taking place on Thursday, May 3 2018 at One Moorgate Place, London, the one-day (9.10am-15.50pm) event will outline what general counsel and providers of legal services need to know now about the specifics of AI, ML and blockchain’s impact.
That data will be placed in the context of the General Data Protection Regulation, the international growth of paperless dispute resolution (including the proposed Online Court for England and Wales) and impending changes to the civil procedure rules.
The day has thus been specially organised to deliver genuine insights and practical information, say the organisers, Think Digital Partners.
The day features presentations from experts including the Director of Knowledge and Learning at Herbert Smith Freehills, Simon Carlton Rhodes, and the Legal Director of Vodafone, Kerry Philip (go here for the agenda).
Other confirmed speakers include the Vice President of the Law Society, Christina Blacklaws and Bird & Bird Partner Roger Bickerstaff (go here for the full speaker list).

Our chair for the day is also a well-known UK legal sector figure – Michael Cross, News Editor of the Law Society Gazette.
Cross has been reporting on AI and technology worldwide since the 1980s, for publications including The Independent and New Scientist, and has also spent the past decade specialised in covering transformation in the UK legal sector.
“The legal profession is on the tipping point of a revolution,” warns Cross.
“For decades, lawyers have famously eschewed information technology – but this is now changing, as clients and the courts system alike demand digital approaches to legal work.
“This conference is one of the first in the UK to explore the possibilities across different sectors of law, from both the provider and the client’s perspective, of the entry of AI and blockchain into the picture.
“It will not come up with all the answers – but will generate the questions that everyone who works in or buys legal services needs to be asking.”
“We have created Think AI For Legal in response to a clear need for the British legal sector to get the chance of quality information and guidance around what practitioners tell us they see as a potential earthquake, changing everything they do,” added the Managing Director of Think Digital Partners, Lucy Brown.
“And all with Think events, the emphasis will be on practical information and knowledge acquisition for delegates.”
If you see this event as of interest, please secure an early place here.
Think Digital Partners will also be carrying a regular stream of content on AI, ML, blockchain and how they might affect the law going forward.
We hope to see you on May 3rd – this really does seem like a definitive conference for the profession.
