HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has selected Atos for a three-year contract worth up to £78.2 million to lead work across its low-code technology estate.
Under the deal, Atos has been named as HMRC’s partner for Low-Code Leadership and Configuration Services, Lot 3 of a procurement conducted through the Digital and Legacy Application Services (DALAS) framework. The contract includes options for two further one-year extensions.
Atos will provide technical and delivery governance and assurance across HMRC’s low-code ecosystem, supporting the department as it modernises its application landscape and digital services for citizens, businesses and its workforce.

Our proven technical expertise and experience in public sector transformation make Atos well-placed to support HMRC as it looks to deliver better digital experiences for citizens at pace.”
What is low-code?
Low-code is an approach to software development that reduces the amount of traditional hand-written code needed to create applications. Platforms typically use visual interfaces, reusable components and automation to enable developers to build, change and deploy applications more quickly.
In its announcement, Atos said low-code technologies can accelerate digital transformation by improving agility and productivity and reducing the time needed to deliver new services. It said the approach can also improve citizen experiences and help organisations reduce costs.

Atos expands government work
The HMRC deal follows another significant government contract award for Atos this year.
In March, Atos announced it had been selected by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) for a seven-year contract to deliver development services for the department’s Digital Elections Services portfolio.
Worth around £63 million, the contract covers work supporting the UK electoral system, with Atos working alongside technology transformation specialist Softwire.
The companies will provide multidisciplinary teams and expertise spanning areas including product management, user research, business analysis, service design, development, testing and technical architecture.
