It’s an intriguing idea, and maybe not what any of us was expecting – but could the Pandemic actually be a way to kick-start wider take-up of Digital Identity?
The idea is that a smartphone-based, Digital ID-supported on-going health check about a citizen’s Coronavirus status could be easily distributed and centrally updated – making it easier for authorities to support the (hopefully soon!) restart of the global economy than with static methods (lanyards or wristbands).

We talked about this last week with our Q&A with the folks behind the so-say ‘Mobile Health Passport,’ Folio.id. Now, we’ve taken the investigation a bit further with a conversation on our new YouTube digital interview channel with Mike Summers of Smartmatic, who explains the concept in a lot more detail…. as well as musing on what these kind of ideas might mean for Digital Identity, as well as if we really are going back to ‘Normal’ at all.
