How OIX Sees The Future Identity Landscape and Ecosystem

OIX’s members are working together to create the environment for service providers and consumers to leverage the next generation of identity solutions. So OIX has a perhaps unique view of the challenge that dealing with identity creates for both service providers and consumers alike. The costs of identity are currently too high, not just in terms of the management of identities themselves, but more importantly the lost business caused by subjecting consumers to difficult and repeated ID verification and clumsy logon processes. At the same time, the cost of doing nothing is poorly understood and is itself likely to be high.

With this in mind, OIX’s co-chair Nick Mothershaw will talk about OIX’s future vision for the identity landscape, considering the key eight areas that OIX has identified that need to be driven forward to achieve this vision. He will also discuss the thinking behind the various projects – both current and proposed – that OIX members are working on to progress this vision, step by step.

In summary, Nick will examine the future identity landscape as OIX sees it, and OIX’s role within the identity ecosystem.

Developing the Identity Marketplace

Six months ago, the Government Digital Service (GDS) said it wanted “take its hands off the control” on identity, and work with the private sector to help grow digital identity creation. So how’s that going? This session will feature a range of interested players: IDPs, Hub providers, the banks and policy specialists, and focus on whether delivery is imminent or delayed.

Who Do We Think You Are? The BBC and Digital Identity

Colin Brown, Lead Identity and Access Management Delivery Architect at the BBC discusses how the broadcaster has delivered on two major identity projects.

The first, BBC Login, is aimed at providing an effective and consistent authentication for the BBC’s staff and their extensive wider family of freelancers, service providers and contributors who deliver its content and programming, with risk-based two factor authentication a key element. The second, BBC Identity, is to replace the organisation’s current identity and access management solution, with a strong focus on the user experience and the true business processes.

In this session, he discusses the goals, successes and challenges involved in the two projects, considering issues such as concept and culture, the importance of taking an Agile approach, and the unique challenges in delivering user-oriented I&AM projects.

With a strong track record of 15 years’ experience defining complete, costeffective IAM solutions to meet complex business requirements, including acting as a subject matter expert and leading the business and technical design for major IAM programmes, Colin Brown continues to be an innovator in his role as Identity and Access Management Delivery Lead at the BBC.
