SECURE ACCESS FOR A CONNECTED WORLD

Todays digital world has become more complex and there are countless interactions between people, machines, and apps – and its growing. IAM systems are under strain to manage new digital initiatives and deal with threats. Before digital explosion you could control access with the right “gates”, but now the digital estate is growing and changing too quickly. We need secure access for every interaction, human and non-human, which requires a solution that is comprehensive and connected.

Ilana Smith and Brandon Murdoch from Microsoft UK will share insight into the creation of a trusted identity fabric that can serve the entire digital estate now and into the future. This will provide a safe entryway, not a gateway restricting access, which will help you verify all identities and secure, manage, and govern access to any resource.

  • Brandon Murdoch, Partner Director of Engineering, Microsoft UK
  • Ilana Smith, Principal PM Manager, Identity Dublin, Microsoft UK

UK DIGITAL IDENTITY AND ATTRIBUTES TRUST FRAMEWORK

George Muscat, DCMS’ Policy Lead for development of the UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework will be looking at a set of rules including roles, policies, procedures and standards governing the use of digital identity. George will be speaking on the government’s progress on the trust framework after working closely with stakeholders to test and receive feedback on the alpha update iteration of the trust framework over the last year. He will also set out the government’s vision for the role the trust framework will play in the digital identity ecosystem – to help organisations check identities and share attributes in a trusted and consistent way, enabling interoperability and increasing public confidence.

THE EVOLUTION OF DIGITAL IDENTITY AT DEFRA

Since May 2018, Condatis and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) have worked together on several Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) strategy and implementation projects. In this panel session with Defra’ Enterprise Architect, Tim Skaptason we will cover where Defra started off in their digital transformation journey, the evolution of Defra’s digital identity framework, and how they have enhanced their digital services over the years.

Defra have several differing user types, from external European and International bodies, public and private sector bodies, Academics and student researchers, voluntary and third sector organisations, and the general public. Together with the team at Defra, Condatis have collaborated on strategy and the provision of a standards-compliant orchestration engine, while retaining the existing Defra component responsible for application of complex business rules, protecting Defra’s past investment.

Defra’s investment in innovations opens the potential for opportunities using password-less technologies and verifiable credentials, to further improve their services and simplify the end-user experience.

THE PENSIONS DASHBOARD AND DIGITAL ENTITLEMENT

The Pension Dashboard has been a complex system to develop. Many people have several pensions and often need to delegate pension management. Most pension systems are manual, and paper based, authorisation for a financial advisor to act on your behalf is done on paper. How can this highly manual process be expressed in the digital world, especially if the demographic is non-digital native?

This session will explore the ways and means of making pension management and access digital and how entitlement and delegation fit into a digital identity-driven system.

  • David Reid, Head of Policy, Engagement & Analysis, Pension Dashboard Programme
  • Nick Mothershaw, Chief Identity Strategist, Open Identity Exchange

IDENTITY VERIFICATION: HOW (NOT) TO CHOOSE BETWEEN TRUST AND CONVERSION

Remote identity verification is the corner stone for any digital identity system, and at the same time infamous for dramatic conversion and fraud risks. In the old days static knowledge based on data linked to users was used for the identity verification, but causes both fraud and low conversion. Current approaches center around document centric  identity verification, leveraging the NFC chip in modern identity documents when possible.  In this presentation we provide an analysis of technologies that can be used here, and their advantages and disadvantages in terms of conversion and trust.
